The CACR facilitates research and education informed by, and integrated with, the practice of information assurance. The Center incorporates the extensive practical experience in cybersecurity of Indiana University's operational units, including the Information Technology Security and Policy Offices, the Advanced Network Management Lab, the Research and Education Information Sharing and Analysis Center, and the Network Operations Center for Internet2.
Our efforts extend far beyond the Indiana University community. We draw on the skills and experience of scholars and practitioners in government, industry, and academia through cooperative research and a robust speaker series. Our major research initiatives focus on real-world problems such as phishing, identity theft, and terrorism. Our scholars and practitioners advise industry, Congress, government agencies, and other colleges and universities, and fill leadership roles in professional associations. We also co-sponsor the annual Indiana Higher Education Cybersecurity Summit.
The Center is not just concerned with how to improve cybersecurity; we also examine its efficiency, cost, and impact on individuals, the public, the economy, and other values and objectives. Students in our new undergraduate and graduate programs in cybersecurity will develop not only high-level technical understanding of information assurance, but also a broader awareness of the practical, legal, economic, and behavioral contexts.
Our approach is broad-based and bridge-building. Recognizing that cybersecurity is an intrinsically interdisciplinary undertaking, we draw on Indiana University's wide range of scholarly expertise in computer science, informatics, accounting and information systems, criminal justice, law, organizational behavior, public policy, and related disciplines. We are among the nation's fastest-growing information assurance programs, adding four new faculty lines last year and currently interviewing to fill two new positions.
